RHCP

Went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in Hyde Park on Saturday. It’s good to hear the Chilis but it’s just got too big. Standard–price (£35 plus booking fee!) tickets put you at a fence about 60 yards back from the stage. It was like paying to push up against a fence to watch a gig in the park that you couldn’t get tickets for. The real gig was going on inside the (still very large) Gold Circle restricted area around the stage.

Wanky crowd also. The first support act was booed and bottled and forced to leave the stage before completing their set. James Brown was met with some indifference. Some people in the Gold Circle spent more time taunting the standard ticketholders and drunkenly kicking a football about than watching the band. Fights were threatened and kicked–off in the crowd and bottles flew throughout. People are such wankers. Still, good to hear the Chilis though.

Comments:
"F*ck you all for booing the Chicks on Speed." Yeah, well f*ck you Flea for booking them. They sucked. They didn't even play any instruments, unless you count the chick holding the brown, square box with four switches that looked suspiciously like the ATAC encryption device from For Your Eyes Only. They also kept shouting, "F*ck guitars," which was odd because it was only for the guitars that I was standing in a field all afternoon and tolerating the 150 metre queue for a beer in the first place.

TBH, I thought it was pretty ugly, the way the crowd treated COS and, personally, I don't get down like that. I heard Sunday was even worse - COS only got thru 3 songs before being booed off and Flea called the crowd "narrow-minded fascists" and "motherfuckers".

And I'm not surprised. Flea's a multi-millionaire musician and COS are his musician mates, whereas we're just a bunch of ignorant British losers. The moral is, buy what he's selling, if you think it's worth the money, but don't expect any favours. My own view is that, for me, it was worth the money as a one-off, but I won't be paying another £35 to press my nose up against the fence, surrounded by wankers, watching the people with enough clout to get a real ticket at the gig on the other side of the fence.

That "this post has been removed by the author" thing is annoying.

Errr, if you dont wanna fight or get hit by a bottle, why go to gigs?
