French songs
For various reasons, which I'm not going to go into at the moment, I have to produce a songsheet of songs which can be sung by a bunch of unmusical people. Ideally, I'd like to include a song in French which isn't the Marseillaise. Does anyone have any suggestions. Criteria are: 1. It must be a tune which French people would recognise from their youth (and maybe go "ahhhh") - the French equivalent of "There'll be Bluebells over the White Cliffs of Dover"). 2. It must be a tune which 25 English people might know and, more importantly, be able to sing. So far, my only thoughts have been "La Mer" - but as that's the only lyric I can remember, I'm having trouble finding it on the net - and "Chanson d'Amour" (which is predominantly in English and hence unsuitable). All assistance gratefully received. This is not a cunning plan to try and sell you some Herbalife products (see below).

This is interesting about why these work from home schemes are highly unlikely to make you any money. I remember reading it a good while ago, but it was brought to mind again when I heard about someone who might be getting involved in one. Since it took me a long time to find it on google this time, I thought I'd link it this time.

My old man's a dustman
Was looking for the alternative football lyrics for the above ("where was the goalie when the ball was in the net?/ flying over England like a supersonic jet" etc.) and I came across this. Might pass a few minutes. The main thing I've learnt from the experience is that my school was not the most sophisticated of places ("Diarrhoea" being the best of the bunch that I can remember).

More Star Wars stuff. Why the Empire is good.

Saw Star Wars II - Attack of the Clones last night. It followed in a similar vein to the Phantom Menace, only better - spectacular, looked good, super action set-pieces, rather wooden dialogue/acting (some of the lines generated smirks and unintended laughter among an admittedly cynical audience), clumsy and obvious plot in places. The 'hints' of Anakin's movement towards the dark side and the love affair with Padme didn't work for me - the first obvious and unsubtle, the second stilted and unconvincing. Highlights were the chase through Coruscant at the start, a wicked computer generated Yoda kicking ass and the big fight at the end - the action stuff, basically.
This piece on the subject is interesting on the dichotomy between naivety and cynicism with which many of us approach new Star Wars releases. We KNOW it'll never be the same again, but we HAVE to go see them anyway.
This BBC review is much more positive - but I can't believe they liked the laughable flowery meadows and giant waterfalls scene.
This review is probably more like it though.

And you thought Monkey was a merely half-remembered TV programme which was much imitated in the playground. Well I did anyway, until I read this.

OK; you have a two lane, one-way street. One lane is for turning left, the other for turning right. To the left is lots of traffic, so the left lane backing up all the way down. The right turn is moving freely. So what do you do? You drive down to the end in the right lane, and then try to force your way left and avoid the queue. Thus totally blocking the RIGHT lane as well. If you're a selfish, annoying prick, you do, anyway.

I like this site about things a bloke and his girlfriend argue about. Eg - "Shortly after every single time Margret touches my computer, for any reason whatsoever, I have to spend twenty minutes trying to fix crashes, locked systems, data loses, jammed drives, bizarre re-configurations and things stuck in the keyboard. There then follows a free and frank exchange of views with, in my corner, "It's your fault" and, in hers, "It's a curious statistical anomaly".
